Lord, teach me how to pray!
Not multiplying wards in babbling, empty chatter,
But just, in simple earnest speech, to say
Those things that really matter.
Lord, teach me too, to be
Sincere in everything for which I pray;
To shun fine words and gilded orat'ry,
And mean just what I say.
Grant that I may, by grace,
A humble spirit manifest;
As child to Father may I learn my place,
And know Thy will is always best.
