Today I saw a field, all parched and bare,
The growth was stunted, signs of life were rare,
I pondered well, could this a picture be
Of mine own soul? - a possibility!
No depth of earth, no room for roots to grow,
So there's no fruit, for there's no sap to flow.
Oh, plough my soul more deep, that I may be,
For Thee on earth - a possibility!
Another field I saw, prolific, green,
It showed much life, abundant fruit was seen,
The roots were deep; ah! could my soul thus be
A fruitful field? - a possibility!
Revive me, Lord, to bear more fruit for Thee.
Send sunshine, rain, send soul prosperity.
E'en to old age I fain would bear for Thee
The Spirit's fruit; - a possibility!
Sweet, fragrant field! the soul the Lord bath blest
Will to Rim yield the firstfruits and the best.
Take now Thy due, for all things come of Thee,
And make me now - a possibility!
