The Effect Of Testimony

In Song of Songs 5.9 a question is asked, "What is thy Beloved more than another beloved" The daughters of Jerusalem who asked the question, had not beheld in the Bridegroom what this ardent lover saw. Literally they said What is He more than anyone else." Alas! they saw no beauty in Hun that they should desire Him.

How different with the one who loved Him I Her speedy response to the question is found in verses 10 16 and we observe that while she seized the opportunity to proclaim His excellencies He was hidden from her view. She had become so well acquainted with Him from long, close companionship, that she did not hesitate to describe fully His beauty from head to feet. His appearance was fresh in her memory.

She began by saying His head is as "the most fine gold," and finished by declaring, as though language to describe Him adequately had failed, " He is altogether lovely. "

So complete, convincing and powerful was her testimony, summed up in these beautiful words, that the daughters who had put the question now had an earnest desire to know where He was, that they might seek Him too (6.1).

May we learn the lesson well. D6 we know Him as she did? Do we keep close companionship with the eternal Lover of our souls day by day? Even though we see Him not, d9 we rejoice with joy unspeakable in Him as God's "unspeakable Gift"? Can we describe Him thus that, as we present Him in all His beauty; others will be drawn to Him also?

"This is my Beloved, and this is my Friend."
