The Remembrance

"This ordinance was instituted by the Lord Jesus on the night of His betrayal, and by His expressed command has been delivered to the people of God called into the Fellowship of the Son of God, that they might have their adorable Redeemer brought vividly to remembrance when they are gathered on the first day of the week for that very purpose. Then it is that having boldness to enter into the Holies by His blood we can draw near to God our exceeding joy; then it is that we can offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ our Lord. This service of the holy priesthood includes singing with grace in our hearts unto God.

That we may offer service to God with reverence and awe (for our God is a consuming fire) it behoves us to have grace (or thankfulness) and to remember that the sacrifice of praise which we are exhorted to bring must be the fruit of lips which make confession to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ."
